Magnetic 4 TB USB4 SSD for iPhone creators

The Oyen Digital Helix Mag40 is a 4 TB external solid-state drive built around a USB4 interface rated for up to 2800 MB/s. Its aluminum enclosure snaps magnetically to MagSafe-equipped iPhone 15 and newer models, giving video creators a pocket-sized drive that records 4K ProRes footage directly to external storage.

USB4 2800 MB/s interface

The single specification that determines suitability is the USB4 connection delivering sequential speeds up to 2800 MB/s. This bandwidth enables sustained 4K ProRes capture and rapid offloads, but the drive requires a host port that supports USB4 or Thunderbolt to reach the rated performance.

Ideal for mobile ProRes workflows

Photographers and videographers who shoot 4K ProRes on iPhone 15 or later and need fast, cable-free external storage will benefit from the magnetic mount and high throughput. Users whose computers lack USB4 or Thunderbolt ports, or who need capacities beyond 4 TB, should consider other solutions.

Questions about this item

What does the 2800MB/s figure mean when the drive is connected to a computer?

It represents the maximum sequential transfer rate the USB4 interface can sustain under ideal conditions; real-world speeds depend on the host controller, cable quality, and file sizes.

Which interface standard does the drive use and what throughput does it cap at?

The drive uses USB4, which caps at the rated 2800MB/s sequential speed; Thunderbolt hosts will negotiate the same USB4 data path.

How does the magnetic attachment work and what does it require on the phone side?

Built-in magnets align with the MagSafe array on iPhone 15 and newer models, letting the SSD snap on securely without extra brackets or adhesives.
