Japan Setting Guide

This Palladium Books supplement details a post-apocalyptic Japan for the Rifts role-playing game. It presents an overview of the nation's people, magic and technology after 300 years since the Great Cataclysm. The book is designed for game masters and players seeking a Japanese-themed campaign setting. It blends traditional mythology with high-tech elements like giant robots and cyborgs.

Rule Integration Ease

The book provides 20 new Occupational Character Classes and 12 suits of power armor ready for immediate use. Game masters must integrate four pre-Rifts cities that have returned from a pocket dimension after only three days. Balancing traditional classes like the Samurai against high-tech options such as the Dragon-Borg requires careful scenario planning. No conversion rules for other systems are included.

Long Campaign Viability

The supplement offers extensive content for sustained play with 11 notable demons, goblins and dragons alongside 9 giant robot designs. Enchanted items like the Living Samurai Sword and the Kyoto Millennium Tree provide long-term plot hooks. The clash between anti-technology traditionalists and returning pre-Rifts forces drives ongoing conflict. Advanced weapons and martial arts support character progression over many sessions.
