Palmgren 9655501 Weld Gauge
This stainless-steel gauge measures butt weld size, convexity and fillet weld dimensions for fabrication and inspection work. It covers a fillet weld range from zero up to three-quarters of an inch and a butt weld range from one thirty-second to one eighth of an inch.
Measurement limits in inch increments
The tool reads in inch units with one thirty-second inch increments across its scales. Convexity is measured from zero to three-quarters of an inch while the included root-open guides cover five sixteenths and one eighth of an inch for joint preparation checks.
Replaces separate fillet and butt gauges
A single instrument handles both fillet and butt weld checks, reducing the number of tools a welder or inspector carries. The jump is worthwhile when a shop regularly verifies both joint types and wants one calibrated reference instead of multiple loose gauges.

Questions about this item
Should I choose the inch-display version or a metric version for this weld gauge?
The gauge displays measurements in inch units only, with increments of 1/32 in, so there is no metric version to select.
What does the 3/4 in convexity range mean when I am checking a weld on the bench?
It means the tool can verify convexity from flat up to 3/4 in, covering the full fillet weld range of 0 to 3/4 in.
Does the 1/32 in increment limit what I can measure compared with a finer scale?
The gauge reads in 1/32 in steps across butt weld sizes of 1/32 to 1/8 in, fillet sizes up to 3/4 in, and convexity up to 3/4 in.
