Wide-angle prime for Micro Four Thirds

The Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 12mm f/1.4 ASPH is a 24mm equivalent wide-angle lens built for Micro Four Thirds cameras. Its fast f/1.4 maximum aperture suits low-light shooting and shallow depth of field work. The optical formula uses two aspherical, two ultra extra-low dispersion and one extra-low dispersion element for edge-to-edge sharpness. A quiet autofocus motor and manual focus switch support both stills and video.

Upgrade from slower kit zooms

Photographers moving from variable-aperture kit zooms gain a constant f/1.4 aperture that gathers significantly more light at the wide end. The jump is worth it when you need cleaner low-light images or stronger subject separation at 24mm equivalent. The all-metal, weather-resistant barrel also withstands conditions that would challenge plastic-mount zooms. Buyers who need zoom flexibility or longer focal lengths will not be served by this fixed wide prime.

Consistent output during extended sessions

The lens maintains optical performance during prolonged use thanks to its robust metal construction and weather-resistant seals. The stepping motor runs quietly without overheating during long video takes. The included 62mm UV filter protects the front element during continuous outdoor work. The bundled cleaning kit, hood and blower keep glass clear across multi-day shoots without requiring extra accessories.

Questions about this item

What filter thread size does the 12mm f/1.4 lens need for the included UV filter?

The lens has a 62mm front thread, so the supplied ULTIMAXX UV filter screws on directly without an adapter ring.

How do you attach the tulip hood to this Micro Four Thirds wide-angle prime?

Align the hood's bayonet tabs with the 62mm filter threads, push on and twist until it clicks; the petal shape prevents vignetting at the 24mm equivalent field of view.

Which cleaning tools from the kit are safe for the aspherical and UED glass elements?

Use the blower first to remove grit, then the microfibre cloth or cleaning pen with gentle circular motions — both are designed for coated optics and won't damage the special elements.
