Rugged laptop for field work

The Panasonic Toughbook CF-31 is a fully rugged laptop built to MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-461F and IP65 standards. It suits professionals who need a computer that survives drops, vibration, dust and water exposure in outdoor or industrial environments. A digitizer pen and power adapter are included. Buyers who need a thin ultrabook or a high-resolution consumer display should look elsewhere.

Sustained load behaviour

The single-core Intel Core i3 processor runs at 2.10 GHz with 4 GB of DDR3 1600 memory configured as 2 GB x 2. Under continuous workloads the mechanical 160 GB hard drive and single-threaded CPU limit throughput compared with multi-core solid-state systems. The chassis is designed to maintain operation across wide temperature ranges without throttling from shock or ingress.

Interface practical limits

The 13.1-inch XGA LED panel delivers 1024 x 768 resolution with sunlight-viewable brightness for outdoor readability. Wireless connectivity uses 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth 4.0, while wired networking is provided by a 10/100/1000 Mbps LAN port. The 32-bit Windows 7 Professional operating system restricts usable memory to 4 GB and does not receive current security updates.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the CF-31 get when running all day on its 2.1GHz Core i3?

The single-core 2.10GHz Core i3 draws modest power, so fan noise stays low and surface temperatures remain manageable during extended use.

What must I already own to use the digitizer pen and sunlight-viewable 1024 x 768 XGA display?

The digitizer pen is included and works directly with the 13.1-inch LED panel; no extra hardware is required for either feature.

Will my existing DDR3 1600 memory modules and 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi network work with this Toughbook?

Yes — the system ships with 4GB of DDR3 1600 (2GB x 2) and supports 802.11a/b/g/n wireless, so your current modules and network are compatible.
