Purpose-built replacement

The Panasonic UJ-875 is a 12.7 mm IDE DVD burner designed as a direct replacement for iMac A1225 and MacBook models that use this specific form factor. It reads and writes both CDs and DVDs from a bare drive without an eject button or bezel.

Compatibility focus

This drive suits owners of legacy Apple or Dell XPS M1530 systems needing a slot-load IDE optical drive that mounts horizontally or vertically. Systems lacking a 12.7 mm IDE connector or requiring a bezel-equipped tray-load unit cannot accept this drive.

Deciding specification

The IDE interface combined with a 12.7 mm slim form factor determines fit; the drive connects only to legacy IDE ports and occupies the exact slimline bay used by the target Apple and Dell models.

How hot does the drive get when running continuously in a laptop bay?

Does my laptop need a 12.7 mm IDE slot and a separate bezel to use this drive?

Yes, the drive fits a 12.7 mm IDE bay and ships without an eject button or bezel, so the host must provide both.
