What it does

The Panlong PL-431AV is a four-input RCA composite switcher that routes one of four yellow-white-red sources to a single TV or capture device. It is built for anyone running multiple legacy consoles, DVD players or set-top boxes on a display with limited AV inputs.

Mechanical push-button switching

A metal enclosure houses a simple mechanical selector that requires no external power supply or software driver. The passive design maintains video bandwidth from 50 Hz to 5.5 MHz and audio response from 10 Hz to 20 kHz with stated input levels of .8 to 1.0 Vp-p at 75 Ohm and 2 V RMS at 47 kOhm respectively.

Retro setups needing one output

Collectors juggling several analogue consoles benefit from instant, crosstalk-free switching without cable swapping. Users who require HDMI, component, S-Video or multi-output distribution will need a different class of switcher because this unit only handles composite video and stereo audio over RCA.

Questions about this item

How much desk space does the 13.5 in by 9.0 in metal enclosure need?

The box measures 13.5 inches wide, 9.0 inches deep and 4.5 inches high, so allow at least that footprint plus room for the four RCA cables that plug into the rear.

Do I need to connect a power adapter before pressing the selector button?

No external supply is required; the mechanical push-button switches the four composite video and stereo audio inputs purely by physical contact.

Will the gold-plated RCA jacks eventually wear out from frequent switching?

The mechanical switch is rated for years of use and the metal shell protects the internal contacts, so no routine jack replacement is expected.
