What this webcam does

The Papalook PA552 is a USB webcam that captures 1080p video at 30 frames per second. It has a fixed-focus lens and a built-in touch-controlled ring light with three brightness levels. Two integrated microphones handle audio for calls and streams.

The spec that decides fit

Maximum video resolution is 1920 by 1080 pixels at 30 fps. If your workflow needs 60 fps or a higher resolution such as 1440p or 4K, this model will not meet that requirement.

Installation and common issues

Plug the USB cable into a computer running Windows, macOS, Linux or Chrome OS and it works without drivers. The fixed focus cannot be adjusted, so very close-up shots may stay soft. The attached privacy cover slides shut but adds a small lip that can catch on thin laptop bezels.

Questions about this item

What does the 1080p at 30 frames per second mean for my video calls?

It delivers Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution at a steady 30 fps, so motion stays smooth on Zoom, Teams or Skype without dropping frames.

The webcam uses USB — which USB standard is it and what does that limit?

It connects via a standard USB plug-and-play interface; bandwidth caps at the host port's USB 2.0 or 3.0 speed, which is ample for 1080p30 video.

The dimensions are 6.1 in by 5.0 in by 6.2 in — will it sit on my monitor bezel?

The base includes a fold-out foot and a privacy cover; the footprint fits most laptop lids and monitor bezels, and the clip adjusts for thicker screens.
