Purpose-built firewall appliance

The Partaker R6-C3808-16G-256G is a 1U rack-mount network security device powered by an Intel Atom C3808 processor with AES-NI hardware encryption. It ships with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 256 GB NVME SSD, providing a ready-to-deploy platform for open-source firewall distributions such as OPNsense or pfSense. The unit targets administrators who need a compact, headless gateway for branch offices or data-centre racks.

Thermals and power in normal use

A 25 W TDP and a ball-bearing silent cooling fan keep the chassis within commercial operating temperatures of 0 °C to 50 °C with surface air flow. The included ATX supply accepts 100-240 V AC at 1.0 A and delivers 12 V at 6.25 A, so power draw stays modest during sustained 24/7 operation. Fan noise remains low enough for shared rack rows or wall-mounted locations.

Upgrade path and when it matters

The appliance replaces older 1 GbE-only gateways by adding four SFP+ X553 10 GbE ports alongside six RJ-45 interfaces, enabling fibre uplinks without a separate switch. Two SODIMM slots support up to 64 GB of DDR4 2400 MT/s RAM, and a 2.5-inch SATA bay plus an M.2 2280 slot allow storage expansion. An x8 PCIe slot and Mini PCIe/M.2 3052 sockets provide room for Wi-Fi or 4G modules when WAN diversity is required. Buyers who need more than ten high-speed ports or multi-socket CPU performance should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How do I mount the 1U 19 inch cabinet and where do people forget the ears?

The chassis is 484 x 252 x 48mm with mounting bracket ears included; the common mistake is skipping the ears and relying on shelf friction, which blocks the surface air flow cooling path.

Which storage drive will need replacement first under 24/7 write load?

The 2.5 inch SATA SSD handles OS logs and databases; it wears faster than the M.2 2280 NVME PCIE 3.0 x2 SSD, so plan to swap the SATA drive first.

At what sustained throughput does the 25W TDP cooling hit its limit?

The ball silent cooling fan is rated for the 25W TDP; continuous 10GbE line-rate traffic on all four SFP+ X553 ports can push the Atom C3808 past that thermal envelope.
