This Perle S-1000-S2SC10 media converter connects copper and fiber segments in a single Gigabit Ethernet link. It is intended for network administrators who need to extend an existing LAN beyond standard copper reach without replacing legacy switches or routers. The unit ships new with a US power cord and fits in a compact 1.0 by 3.1 by 4.7 inch enclosure.

Single-mode fiber distance limit

The SC duplex interface supports 1000Base-LX signaling over single-mode fiber up to 6.21 miles. Copper connectivity is provided by one RJ-45 port operating at 1000Base-T, limited to the standard 100 meter segment length. No other fiber types or wavelengths are supported by this module.

Capacity for campus and metro spans

The converter comfortably handles building-to-building links across a campus or metropolitan area where single-mode fiber is already installed. It runs out of reach when the fiber path exceeds the stated 6.21 mile maximum or when multi-mode fiber is the only available cabling.
