Perle 100Base-BX SFP Transceiver

The Perle C-100MM-S1ST20D is a small form-factor pluggable transceiver designed for 100Base-BX single-fibre bidirectional links. It suits network engineers extending Fast Ethernet over one fibre strand. The module also supports 100Base-FX for dual-fibre deployments where that topology is preferred.

Practical limits of 100Base-BX

The 100Base-BX standard delivers 100 Mbps over distances up to 20 km on single-mode fibre using wavelength-division multiplexing. Both ends must use matched TX and RX wavelengths to establish a link. The interface is fixed at 100 Mbps and cannot auto-negotiate to higher speeds such as Gigabit Ethernet.

Installation notes and common issues

The transceiver is hot-pluggable into any compliant SFP cage, so no host reboot is required. Most integration problems arise from mismatched wavelength pairs or connecting to a 100Base-FX port without the correct fibre patch cord. Always verify the TX and RX labels on both modules before cabling.
