What the CM-110-S2SC20 does

This managed media converter connects a 10/100Base-TX copper port to a 100Base-LX single-mode fibre link. It is intended for network engineers extending Ethernet beyond the copper distance limit. The module fits into a compatible Perle chassis for centralised management.

Distance headroom and limits

The RJ-45 side reaches 100 metres over twisted pair. The SC single-mode interface pushes the signal to 20 kilometres at 1310 nm wavelength. Bandwidth tops out at 100 Mbps, so gigabit or multi-gigabit uplinks are not supported by this module.

Chassis dependency and fibre planning

The unit requires a Perle Media Converter shelf for power and management access; it cannot operate standalone. Single-mode fibre patch cords with SC connectors must be sourced separately. The fixed 1310 nm wavelength simplifies link budgeting but prevents wavelength-division multiplexing on the same strand.
