Purpose-built lavalier and headset mic

The Phenyx Pro PTU-5000 is a miniature condenser microphone that clips on as a lavalier or mounts on the supplied wired boom for headset use. Its unidirectional capsule focuses on the speaker while rejecting off-axis sound, making it suited to stage, worship, conference, interview and video work where clear speech pickup matters.

Check your bodypack connector and power

Verify that your wireless transmitter or mixer provides a 3-pin mini XLR input and can supply between 1.5 V and 10 V DC to the capsule. The fixed 1.2 m cable terminates in that mini XLR plug, so the bodypack must be within cable reach; no adapter is included. Confirm the 2 kΩ output impedance matches your receiver's input specification before ordering.

Replaces fixed-position or omnidirectional mics

This unit upgrades from stationary podium microphones or omnidirectional lavaliers that capture room noise and limit presenter movement. The switch to a unidirectional condenser with 130 dB max SPL and 20 Hz to 20 kHz response is worthwhile when feedback rejection and consistent close-talk clarity are required for live speech or broadcast.

Questions about this item

Does the PTU-5000 lavalier or headset mic include the wireless bodypack transmitter?

The package contains the microphone with a 1.2 m cable, a removable windscreen and a metal clip; the PTU-5000 bodypack transmitter is sold separately.

Should I choose the lavalier or the headset version for a church presentation?

Both use the same unidirectional condenser capsule with 20 Hz–20 kHz response and -44 dB sensitivity; the headset adds an adjustable wired boom for hands-free stability while the lavalier clips to clothing.

What does the 130 dB maximum SPL mean when I am speaking close to the mic?

It indicates the capsule can handle very loud voices up to 130 dB without distortion, so close-miked speech stays clean even at high volume.
