PLANET GTP-805A Smart Media Converter

The PLANET GTP-805A is a Smart Media Converter that bridges a 10/100/1000Base-T copper port to a 1000Base-SX/LX fibre uplink via an SFP slot. It is built for network engineers extending Gigabit Ethernet links over fibre in FTTX or enterprise installations.

Installers needing managed fibre uplinks

This unit suits technicians who require DIP-switch configuration for fibre auto-negotiation or forced mode and Link Loss Carry Forward (LLCF) with Link Loss Return (LLR) for fault diagnosis. It is not for buyers who need a fixed-transceiver converter, PoE injection, or multi-port aggregation in a single chassis.

Distance defined by the chosen SFP module

The transmission reach is not fixed by the converter itself; it depends entirely on the SFP transceiver fitted. Supported modules cover multi-mode distances of 220 m or 550 m, single-mode spans of 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 or 120 km, and single-fibre WDM options at 15 km or 60 km.

Questions about this item

What speed does the RJ-45 port on the PLANET GTP-805A support?

The RJ-45 port handles 10/100/1000Base-T with auto-negotiation and auto-MDI/MDI-X.

What SFP module form factor does the GTP-805A accept?

It takes a standard mini-GBIC SFP transceiver in the 1000Base-SX/LX slot.

How do I enable Link Loss Carry Forward on this converter?

Use the DIP switch to turn on LLCF/LLR; the switch also sets fibre auto-negotiation or forced mode.
