USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter

The Plugable USB3-E1000 adds a wired Gigabit Ethernet port to laptops, desktops and the Nintendo Switch through a USB 3.0 connection. It uses the ASIX AX88179B chipset to deliver speeds up to 1000 Mbps for gaming, streaming and video calls. The adapter works with Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 7, XP, macOS 11 and newer, Chrome OS and Linux Kernel 3.9+.

USB 3.0 interface limit

The USB 3.0 interface caps throughput at its maximum signalling rate, so real-world transfer will not exceed that ceiling even though the Ethernet side negotiates 1000 Mbps. Jumbo frame, VLAN tagging and checksum offload are supported, but the adapter cannot reach multi-gigabit speeds. It is not compatible with Smart TVs.

AX88179B chipset

Driver installation is automatic via Windows Update for supported Windows versions, while macOS 11+ uses native CDC-NCM drivers requiring no extra software. Linux Kernel 3.9+ includes built-in support. This chipset determines the exact OS compatibility list and the feature set available on each platform.
