Poly-Temp 16040 Thread Sealant Tape

Poly-Temp 16040 is a white PTFE pipe thread sealant tape designed for general-purpose sealing on threaded connections up to 1 1/2 inch diameter. It suits plumbers, maintenance technicians and DIY users who need reliable leak prevention on water, air or gas lines.

Build quality and daily handling

The tape meets POLY-TEMP MD series density standards between 0.7 and 0.8 g/cc, giving consistent wrap thickness and tear resistance during application. Supplied on a 1/2 inch wide roll of 1296 inches, it covers multiple joints without frequent roll changes and stores easily in a tool bag.

Temperature and pressure limits

Rated for continuous service from -400 °F to 550 °F, the material remains stable in cryogenic and high-heat environments. It withstands liquid pressures up to 10,000 psi and gas pressures up to 2,000 psi, so it is not suited for ultra-high-pressure gas systems exceeding that threshold.

Questions about this item

What pressure limits does the 1/2 in thread sealant tape handle for liquids and gases?

The tape seals liquid systems up to 10,000 psi and gas systems up to 2,000 psi, covering general-purpose pipe threading jobs.

What is the maximum thread diameter the 1296 in roll can seal?

It is rated for threads up to 1 1/2 in diameter, so the width and length suit standard pipe sizes in that range.

How should the PTFE tape be wrapped so it does not unravel when the fitting is tightened?

Wrap clockwise along the thread direction with slight tension, overlapping each turn by half the tape width, and finish with the end pressed flat.
