Poly-Temp 28005 Joint Sealant Ribbon

This white joint sealant ribbon measures 3/16 inch wide by 75 feet long. It is designed for gasket-making, food applications, compressed air systems and general-purpose thread sealing. The tape operates from -450 to 600 degrees Fahrenheit. Its linear density ranges from 0.7 to 0.8 grams per cubic centimetre.

Capacity and headroom

The ribbon withstands liquid pressures up to 3,000 psi and gas pressures up to 232 psi. It handles extreme cold down to -450 degrees Fahrenheit and heat up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit. The 75-foot roll provides ample length for multiple sealing jobs. Density stays within the 0.7 to 0.8 g/cc range for consistent performance.

Practical limits of the standard

Maximum liquid pressure is capped at 3,000 psi and gas pressure at 232 psi. Temperatures beyond -450 or 600 degrees Fahrenheit fall outside the rated envelope. The fixed 3/16-inch width may not suit joints requiring wider or narrower tape. Buyers needing higher pressure ratings or different widths must select another product.

Questions about this item

Will the 3/16 in wide ribbon seal reliably against my existing 1/2 in pipe threads?

Yes, the 3/16 in joint sealant ribbon wraps around 1/2 in pipe threads and compresses to fill the helical leak path, rated for 3,000 psi liquid and 232 psi gas service.

How can I verify the seal is holding at the rated 600 Degrees F maximum temperature?

Pressurise the system to working pressure, then apply a leak-detection solution or electronic sniffer at each joint; no bubbles or tracer signal confirms the ribbon is performing within its 600 Degrees F limit.

Does the 75 ft roll include a dispenser or cutter, or must I supply my own?

The box contains only the 75 ft roll of white POLY-TEMP joint sealant ribbon; a dispenser, cutter or any installation tool is not included and must be purchased separately.
