A 10 lb refractory mortar for laying fire brick in fireplaces, barbeques and pizza ovens, covering 0.5 cu ft with zero VOCs
This single-component refractory mortar comes in a 10 lb pail and covers 0.5 cu ft. It is formulated for laying fire brick and setting clay flue liners in fireplaces, barbeques and pizza ovens. The gray powder suits brick, concrete, stone and wood surfaces. Application temperatures range from 40 to 100 degrees F.
The product is a dry mortar powder that requires no electrical power and generates no operational noise. It begins to harden after 2.5 hours and reaches full cure in 28 days. VOC content is 0 g/L, making it suitable for indoor and outdoor masonry repairs without fume concerns.
Once fully cured, the mortar withstands continuous high-heat exposure in fireplaces, barbeques and pizza ovens. The single-component mix maintains structural integrity through repeated heating and cooling cycles. It is not intended for applications requiring rapid setting or load-bearing capacity before the 28-day cure completes.

Mix the powder with water, apply to clean brick or concrete surfaces between 40 and 100 degrees F, and allow 2.5 hours for initial hardening before exposing to heat; the step often missed is waiting the full 28 days for complete cure before full-temperature use.
Once fully cured after 28 days, the mortar becomes a permanent part of the firebox, flue liner, or pizza oven structure and does not require scheduled replacement; inspect joints annually for cracks caused by thermal cycling and re-point only if damage appears.
The 10 lb pail yields only 0.5 cu ft of coverage, so the practical limit is running out of material before the job is finished; plan the layout and purchase enough pails to cover the entire firebrick or flue-liner installation in one session.
