Desktop 10 GbE Switch

The QSW-308S-US is a fanless desktop switch with three 10 GbE SFP+ ports and eight Gigabit RJ45 ports. It targets small offices and home labs that need a silent uplinks-to-clients aggregation point. Auto-negotiation handles speed and duplex detection on every port. The unit operates from a 100-240 V AC adapter and supports jumbo frames up to 9 KB.

Sustained Load Behaviour

Under full line-rate traffic across all eleven ports the switch draws 36 W while the fanless ventilated chassis keeps temperatures within the 0 to 40 °C operating range. With links down the standby draw falls to 1.8 W. A 10 K MAC address table and per-port LEDs give visibility during continuous operation. No moving parts mean acoustic output stays at zero regardless of throughput.

Upgrade Context

This switch replaces an all-Gigabit desktop switch when three 10 GbE fibre uplinks are required for servers, NAS units or workstations. The SFP+ ports accept only 10 GbE modules, so existing 1 GbE SFP transceivers cannot be reused. Buyers who need more than three 10 GbE ports or backward-compatible SFP+ slots should look at larger models.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the fanless QSW-308S-US get when all ports run at line rate for hours?

The switch uses a fanless ventilated chassis for silent operation. At full load it draws 36 W and is rated for 0 to 40 °C ambient temperature.

What cables and transceivers must I already have to use the three 10 GbE SFP+ ports and eight RJ45 ports?

You need SFP+ modules or direct-attach cables for the 10 GbE ports — they do not accept 1 GbE SFP — and standard Cat5e or better Ethernet cables for the eight RJ45 ports.

Will my older 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps devices work alongside the 10 GbE uplinks on this switch?

The eight RJ45 ports support IEEE 802.3u 100BASE-TX and IEEE 802.3ab 1000BASE-T with auto-negotiation, so legacy 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps gear connects directly while the SFP+ ports handle 10 GbE uplinks.
