Vertical Laptop Stand 17.3

The Rain Design vertical stand holds laptops up to 17.3 inches upright using a gravity-activated auto-lock mechanism. It is built from aluminum with a weighted base and silicone padding for stability on a desk. The design saves horizontal space while improving passive airflow around the device.

Check Laptop Thickness and Vent Placement

Verify that your laptop’s thickness fits within the adjustable clasp range before ordering. Confirm that exhaust vents are not blocked when the unit is held vertically, as the stand relies on open airflow paths for cooling. Ensure the base footprint suits your available desk depth.

Frees Desk Space for Peripherals

The vertical orientation clears horizontal room for a keyboard, mouse, or external monitor alongside the docked laptop. It supports clamshell-mode operation with an external display while keeping the laptop elevated for heat dissipation. The stand needs only a flat, stable tabletop surface to operate.

Questions about this item

Does the stand ship with any cables or power adapters, or is it only the aluminum holder?

Only the aluminum laptop holder is included; no cables, power adapters or mounting hardware are supplied.

Is there a choice of width or depth settings for different laptop sizes, or a single fixed slot?

The holder uses a gravity-linked auto-lock that self-adjusts to any laptop up to 17.3 inches, so no manual width or depth selection is needed.

How does the vertical orientation affect thermals when the laptop runs in clamshell mode?

Holding the device upright creates an unobstructed path for exhaust vents, letting hot air rise naturally and reducing the chance of thermal throttling during heavy workloads.
