Raritan FR2000 KVM Extender Kit

The Raritan FR2000 FiberReach II KVM Extender Kit enables secure keyboard, video and mouse access over two strands of fiber optic cable. It is designed for IT administrators who need to operate servers or KVM switches from a remote console location. The kit supports standard single-mode fiber up to 10000 meters and multi-mode fiber up to 550 meters. Simple plug and play installation gets the link running quickly.

Sustained remote operation

Keyboard and mouse emulation prevents server lock-up during long management sessions, keeping the remote console responsive. Status LEDs give immediate visibility of fiber link integrity so administrators can verify the connection at a glance. Fine-tuning hot-keys allow direct video adjustments from the keyboard without leaving the session. Local pass-through ports at the transmitter provide direct access to the server or KVM switch when needed.

Pre-installation checks

Verify that your fiber infrastructure provides either single-mode or multi-mode cable with the correct connectors for the transmitter and receiver units. Confirm the target video output does not exceed 1280 x 1024 at 72Hz, as higher resolutions are not supported. Ensure the rack space can accommodate the 1U half-width form factor, with 19-inch brackets available if two units will share 1U. Check that optional Raritan adapters are on hand if your server platforms require them.

Questions about this item

Does the FR2000 kit generate noticeable heat or noise when running continuously in a rack?

The 1U half-width units have no fans listed, so they operate silently and produce minimal heat during all-day use.

What existing cabling and server ports are needed to connect the FR2000 transmitter and receiver?

You must provide two strands of single-mode fiber for 10000 m runs or multi-mode fiber for 550 m, plus standard keyboard, mouse and video ports on the server side.

Will the FR2000 pass through video from an older 1280 x 1024 @72Hz server to a modern monitor without scaling issues?

Yes, the extender supports that exact resolution and refresh rate, and keyboard and mouse emulation prevents the legacy server from locking up during switching.
