17-inch rack drawer KVM

The Raritan MCD-LED17108 integrates a 17in LED-backlit LCD panel with an eight-port CAT5 KVM switch in a single 1U drawer. It lets administrators monitor and control up to eight servers from one console without leaving the rack aisle.

Eight simultaneous server links

Each of the eight ports connects to a target server over a standard CAT5 cable, allowing the switch to maintain active keyboard, video and mouse sessions for all attached systems at once. The operator selects any port through on-screen menus or front-panel buttons without interrupting sessions on the other ports.

Passive cooling in 1U form factor

The drawer relies on the rack's airflow to dissipate heat from the LCD panel and switching electronics, so no internal fans add acoustic noise. Power consumption stays low because the LED backlight and switching logic draw minimal current during normal operation.

Questions about this item

How much heat and noise does the 17-inch LED-backlit LCD drawer produce when the 8-port KVM runs continuously?

The unit fits in a standard 1U rack space and uses LED backlighting, which generates less heat than older CCFL panels; fan noise is low enough for typical server-room backgrounds.

What cables or server-side modules must I already own to connect eight servers to the MCD-LED17108?

Each of the eight ports uses a CAT5 link, so you need one Raritan-compatible CAT5 dongle or server-interface module per server plus CAT5 patch cables for each run.

Will the 17-inch drawer KVM work alongside PS/2 or USB servers I am keeping from an older rack?

Yes — the CAT5 dongles are available with PS/2 or USB connectors, letting you mix legacy PS/2 boxes and newer USB servers on the same eight-port switch.
