Compact binoculars for close-range nature viewing

The Ricoh Papilio III 6.5x21 WR Olive is a compact binocular designed for observing subjects at very close distances. Its minimum focusing distance of 50 centimetres makes it suitable for detailed study of flora, insects and museum exhibits. The 6.5x magnification and 21mm objective lens provide a 7.5-degree real field of view for tracking moving subjects. Weather-resistant construction allows use in rain or near water splashes.

Convergence correction maintains image alignment

The PENTAX-original convergence correction mechanism compensates for the visual-field discrepancy that normally occurs when viewing objects at close range. This optical system keeps the left and right images properly merged down to the 50-centimetre minimum focus distance. The 7.5-degree field of view remains stable during extended observation sessions. Weather-resistant sealing protects the internal optics from moisture during sustained outdoor use.

Optical limits defined by magnification

The 6.5x magnification paired with a 21mm objective lens sets the practical boundaries for light gathering and resolution. The 7.5-degree real field of view determines how much of a scene is visible at any moment. Close-focus performance is limited to a minimum of 50 centimetres by the convergence correction system. Weather resistance enables operation in wet conditions but does not imply submersion capability.

Questions about this item

Do the 6.5x magnification and 21mm objective lenses let me track birds all day without eye strain?

The 6.5x power and 21mm objectives keep the exit pupil small, so extended daylight viewing stays comfortable.

What mounting or power accessories must I already own to use these binoculars?

No mounts, batteries or external power are required — they are a completely self-contained optical instrument.

How does the 50cm minimum focus distance work with my existing spotting scope for near and far subjects?

The 50cm close-focus lets you study insects or flowers up close, while the spotting scope handles distant detail.
