What the Theta X is and who it is for

The Ricoh Theta X is a compact mirrorless camera built to capture 360-degree stills and video in a single handheld unit. It targets creators who need spherical content for virtual tours, immersive media or social platforms without stitching multiple shots manually. The 2.25-inch touch screen lets you frame and review scenes directly on the device. Buyers who require interchangeable lenses or traditional flat-frame photography should look elsewhere.

How it fits into a spherical workflow

The camera records 11K stills at 11008 x 5504 pixels and 5.7K video at 5760 x 2880 pixels at 30 fps, so a workstation capable of handling large 360-degree files is needed for editing. Internal storage of 46 GB is supplemented by a memory-card slot for longer sessions. The replaceable DB-110 battery allows continuous shooting by swapping cells instead of waiting for a recharge. No external microphone input or hot-shoe is mentioned, so audio capture relies on the built-in system.

What the bundled accessories and software change

The box includes the rechargeable DB-110 battery and a USB cable for charging and data transfer. Ricoh's companion smartphone app enables wireless high-speed transfer of stills and videos, plus remote control of shooting settings from a mobile device. Firmware updates delivered through the app add features such as improved stitching algorithms and new capture modes over time. No desktop editing suite or cloud storage subscription is included.
