Four USB 3.0 ports on a PCIe x1 card

This RIITOP expansion card adds four USB 3.0 ports to a desktop computer through a single PCI Express x1 slot. It uses a Renesas UPD720201 host controller to deliver 5 Gbps bandwidth per port. The card fits x1, x4, x8 or x16 slots and ships with a standard bracket for PCs, servers, workstations or NAS units. Each port supplies up to 2 A for power-hungry peripherals.

No external power connector required

The card draws all power from the PCIe slot itself, so no extra cables or adapters are needed. Total available current is 8 A across the four ports, enough for multiple high-draw devices at once. Windows 10 and 11 work driver-free, while Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8.1 and Server 2003, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2019, 2022 may need the included CD driver. Most Linux kernels also support plug-and-play operation.

Not for macOS or internal header connections

macOS is not supported at all, so Mac builders should look elsewhere. The card provides only rear-facing Type-A ports; there are no internal USB headers for front-panel or additional internal devices. Bandwidth is shared across the single PCIe x1 link, so sustained transfers on all four ports simultaneously will be limited by that link.

Questions about this item
