12 Mic/Line Inputs with 75 dB Gain
The RME 12Mic-D is a 1 RU rackmount preamp and analog-to-digital converter that adds twelve channels of pristine mic/line inputs to a networked audio system. It is built for engineers and producers who need high-density front-panel connectivity in professional studio or live sound environments. Each channel delivers up to 75 dB of gain for clean signal capture.
Dante, ADAT and MADI Integration
Two RJ45 ports provide Dante networking alongside three ADAT outputs and a pair of coaxial MADI ports with an optional optical SFP module. Any signal can be routed over the network with fixed latency to ensure steady playback. RME SteadyClock FS maintains precise synchronization across connected devices for jitter-free performance.
Redundant Power and Flexible Control
Redundant supplies accept both DC and IEC AC inputs so accidental disconnection of either source will not shut the unit down. Gain and settings are adjustable from the front-panel buttons, knob and colour screen, via a web interface or wirelessly over Wi-Fi. Four TRS/XLR combo inputs include Hi-Z switches for direct instrument connection while eight XLR inputs handle microphone sources. Not suited for buyers who need more than twelve input channels or who require analog line outputs not provided on this unit.

Questions about this item
Should I choose the 8 XLR or the 4 TRS/XLR inputs for microphones?
Both input types accept microphones; the 8 XLR inputs are dedicated mic/line, while the 4 TRS/XLR combo jacks add Hi-Z switches for direct instrument connection.
What does the 75 dB gain figure mean when recording quiet sources?
It provides enough clean amplification for low-output dynamic microphones or distant sources without adding audible noise.
How many Dante channels can the two RJ45 ports carry in practice?
The dual RJ45 ports provide redundant Dante networking for all 12 input channels with fixed latency and SteadyClock FS synchronisation.
