DeadCat VMP+ wind shield for VideoMic Pro+

The DeadCat VMP+ is an artificial fur wind shield designed exclusively for the Rode VideoMic Pro+ microphone. It targets videographers and audio professionals who record outdoors and need to suppress wind noise without compromising high-frequency detail. The accessory addresses the specific challenge of capturing clean dialogue and ambient sound in exposed locations.

Compatibility check before ordering

Verify that the microphone in use is the VideoMic Pro+ model, as the shield is engineered solely for that unit and will not fit other VideoMic variants or third-party microphones. The rubber base is moulded to the Pro+ housing to seal the rear pickup area, so a different microphone body will prevent a secure, noise-free fit.

Build integration and workflow

The shield slips over the microphone capsule and locks via the rubber base, adding a dual-layer barrier of open-cell foam and acoustically transparent fur. This construction reduces wind turbulence at the source, freeing the recordist from excessive post-production noise reduction. The lightweight fur adds minimal bulk, preserving the microphone's balance on camera-mounted or boom configurations.
