Micro Windjammers 65546

The Rycote Micro Windjammers 65546 are slip-on wind shields designed for the built-in microphones on HDSLR cameras, HD camcorders and compact cameras. They also fit iPhone, iPad and most mobile phone devices. The all-in-one design reduces wind noise during outdoor recording sessions.

Replaces foam windscreens

Foam covers supplied with cameras often let gusts rumble through the capsule. These windjammers add a synthetic-fur layer that damps turbulent air before it reaches the microphone, making the upgrade worthwhile whenever you shoot in open or breezy conditions.

Limits of passive wind protection

The jammer relies on still-air pockets in the fur, so sustained high winds or direct blasts can still overwhelm the capsule. It adds no electronic filtering and cannot compensate for microphone self-noise or handling vibration transmitted through the camera body.

Questions about this item

How does the 65546 Micro Windjammer attach to my camera's built-in microphone?

It uses an all-in-one design that fits directly over the integrated microphone on HDSLR, camcorder or compact cameras, with no separate mounts or adhesives required.

What is the correct way to seat the windjammer so wind cannot leak underneath?

Stretch the elastic opening fully over the microphone housing and press the base firmly against the camera body until the seal is even all round; the common error is leaving a small gap at one corner.

When should I replace the 65546 windjammer if I record outdoors regularly?

Replace it when the synthetic fur becomes matted, torn or no longer springs back after cleaning, as compressed fibres lose the ability to diffuse wind turbulence effectively.
