Rycote Windjammer 1 Windscreen for Mono Modular Windshield 1 #RYC021501

SKU CH-MQ5D-05DYP

Faux-fur windscreen adds 10–12 dB extra wind-noise reduction to the Mono Modular Windshield 1, reaching up to 35 dB total attenuation

  • Made from special screening materials with virtually no adverse effect on sound level or quality
  • Two locking zip fasteners allow snug and easy fitting
  • NEW double zips and elastic loops allow complete cover over Modular windshields
  • Soft rubber balls allow easy fixing for the zippers to prevent rattles
  • Provides an extra 10-12dB of noise protection when used with the standard windshield

Purpose and audience

The Rycote Windjammer 1 is an external fur windscreen built for field recordists and outdoor broadcasters who use the Mono Modular Windshield 1. It adds a secondary barrier that preserves low-frequency detail when wind noise would otherwise overwhelm the microphone signal.

Build integration

The cover slides over the existing modular windshield and secures with two locking zip fasteners plus soft rubber balls that stop the zippers from rattling. Double zips and elastic loops create a complete seal, so no separate suspension or mounting hardware is required beyond the windshield itself.

Sustained performance

Combined with the base windshield the system delivers up to 35dB of low-frequency wind-noise reduction, adding 10 to 12dB over the windshield’s own 25dB attenuation at 35Hz. At higher frequencies the layer contributes roughly 5dB of extra attenuation above 6kHz, though moisture or matting can increase that figure during long sessions.

Questions about this item

How much extra wind-noise reduction does the Windjammer 1 add to the Mono Modular Windshield 1?

The Windjammer 1 supplies an additional 10-12dB of noise protection on top of the windshield's existing 25dB attenuation, achieving up to 35dB total wind-noise reduction at low frequencies.

What happens to high-frequency attenuation if the Windjammer 1 gets wet or matted?

Moisture or matting can increase the attenuation above 6kHz beyond the normal approximate 5dB, so the cover should be kept dry and free of matting for consistent high-frequency response.

Which windshield model is this Windjammer 1 designed to fit?

It is made specifically for the Mono Modular Windshield 1 and uses double zips with elastic loops to cover it completely.
