What this enclosure does

The Sabrent EC-UK30 turns a 2.5" SATA solid-state drive or hard drive into an external USB 3.0 device. It suits anyone who wants to reuse an internal laptop drive for portable storage or quick data transfer without opening a computer case.

Capacity and headroom

One 2.5" SATA bay accepts drives up to the physical height of standard notebook units. The USB 3.0 host link tops out at 5 Gbps, so large sequential copies will saturate the bus before a modern SSD reaches its own limit, while random workloads stay well within the interface ceiling.

Thermals, noise and power

The aluminium shell acts as a passive heatsink, drawing warmth away from the enclosed drive during sustained reads and writes. No fan is fitted, so operation stays silent, and the unit draws all power from the USB port with no external adapter required.

Questions about this item

Will the USB 3.0 enclosure work with my older laptop that only has USB 2.0 ports?

Yes, the EC-UK30 is reverse compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 ports, so it will function on older hardware, though data will move at the slower host speed.

How can I confirm the enclosure is operating correctly once I connect a SATA drive?

The built-in LED shows power and activity status, lighting solid for power and blinking during read or write operations.

Does the package include a SATA drive or only the aluminum case and USB cable?

The box contains the enclosure and a USB 3.0 cable; a 2.5" SATA hard drive or SSD must be purchased separately.
