Connects a parallel printer to a USB port with 80cm cable and 12 Mbps transfer
This Sabrent cable connects a Centronics 36-pin parallel printer to a USB Type A port on a computer. It is intended for users with legacy IEEE 1284 printers who need to attach them to modern systems lacking a native parallel port. The 80cm length suits desktop setups where the printer sits close to the host. Nickel-plated connectors with gold-plated copper contacts provide reliable conductivity.
The adapter operates on a plug-and-play basis with Windows, Mac OS and Linux; no driver disk or manual software installation is required. Simply connect the USB Type A male end to the computer and the CN36 male end to the printer, and the operating system configures the device automatically. The main installation issue occurs when the printer itself does not use the IEEE 1284 Centronics 36 interface, making the cable physically incompatible.
Data transfer is limited to the USB 1.1 and 2.0 specification, with a maximum rate of 12 Mbps. This bandwidth is adequate for text and simple graphics but will slow the printing of complex, high-resolution images compared to a native parallel port. The cable does not add a parallel port to the computer; it only bridges a single IEEE 1284 device, so users needing to connect multiple parallel peripherals simultaneously cannot do so with this adapter.

The driver installs automatically on Windows, Mac or Linux; once the printer appears in the device list and prints a test page, the 12 Mbps link is active.
The box contains the 80 cm USB Type A Male to Centronics 36 Male cable only; the printer, computer and any paper or ink are not included.
This single model supports USB 1.1 and 2.0 and fits any device with a 36-pin Centronics connector, so no other version is needed.
