Product identity

The Saicoo FBA_S0201B-SSM is a USB 2.0 Common Access Card reader built for DOD military and government personnel who need secure login to systems such as ActivClient, AKO, OWA and Disa Enterprise Email. It suits users who require a horizontal-form-factor device for desk-based authentication.

Deciding specification

The reader supports ISO7816 Class A, B and C smart cards but does not support VA PIV cards, so buyers whose credentials rely on that specific card type must choose a different model.

Build integration

A USB Type-A plug connects directly to Windows XP through 10 (32 or 64-bit) or Mac OS X with no driver installation required. The compact 6.89 in by 4.72 in by 2.17 in footprint leaves desk space free while the 0.091 kg weight keeps the setup portable.

Questions about this item

How does the USB 2.0 speed affect CAC login performance on a real workstation?

The USB 2.0 link provides plenty of bandwidth for ISO 7816 smart-card transactions, so CAC authentication and digital-signature operations complete at the same speed the card itself allows.

What does the USB 2.0 Type-A interface limit in daily use?

The Type-A plug caps the connection at USB 2.0 rates and requires a standard USB-A port; it will not fit USB-C sockets without an adapter.

Will the 6.89 in by 4.72 in horizontal footprint fit beside a compact keyboard?

At 6.89 inches wide and 4.72 inches deep the reader needs a fair amount of desk space; measure your keyboard tray before deciding on placement.
