22TB Thunderbolt 3 desktop drive

This 22TB external hard drive uses Thunderbolt 3 connectivity for creative professionals who move large media libraries every day. The aluminium enclosure houses a 7200 RPM enterprise-class drive rated for sustained workloads. It is built for editors, photographers and videographers who need high-capacity local storage without a rack-mounted array.

Dual Thunderbolt 3 ports and 260 MB/s throughput

Two Thunderbolt 3 ports provide 40 Gbps bandwidth and allow daisy-chaining up to five additional devices. Sequential read and write speeds reach 260 MB/s on the 22TB model, so multi-stream 4K video timelines play back directly from the drive. The single spec that decides fit is whether the host has a Thunderbolt 3 or 4 port; USB-C hosts without Thunderbolt will not work.

PRO-BLADE SSD Mag slot and included AC adapter

A built-in PRO-BLADE SSD Mag slot lets you offload, duplicate or edit footage from a compatible PRO-BLADE SSD Mag at SSD speeds without a separate reader. The package includes a Thunderbolt 3 cable and the required AC power adapter so the drive is operational immediately. Buyers who need bus-powered operation or USB-only connectivity should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

What does the 260 MB/s figure mean when I am editing 4K video on this drive?

The 260 MB/s read and write speeds let you stream and edit high-bitrate 4K footage directly from the 7200 RPM Ultrastar drive without proxy files.

What does Thunderbolt 3 at 40 Gbps actually cap in daily use?

The Thunderbolt 3 interface caps real-world throughput at the drive's 260 MB/s limit, leaving bandwidth for a second device on the second port.

Will the aluminium enclosure and AC adapter fit on a standard desk shelf?

The aluminium desktop enclosure requires external power from the included AC adapter, so allow space for the drive and its power brick.
