What this drive does

The SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive m3.0 128GB adds a micro-USB connector and a USB 3.0 connector to a single retractable body. It plugs directly into OTG-enabled Android phones or tablets to offload photos, videos and contacts without a cable or cloud upload. The USB 3.0 end connects to any laptop, desktop or Mac for fast file transfer at up to 150MB/s read speed.

Who should buy it and who should not

This drive suits Android users who need to free up internal storage quickly and move large media libraries to a computer. The dual-connector design removes the need for adapters or OTG cables. Buyers who need more than 128GB of portable space should look at higher-capacity options. Users whose devices only offer USB-C ports cannot plug the micro-USB end in without a separate adapter, which is not included.

The specification that decides fit

The drive provides one micro-USB connector and one USB 3.0 Type-A connector in a retractable housing. If your Android device supports USB On-The-Go and has a micro-USB port, the drive plugs in directly. If your phone or tablet uses USB-C exclusively, the micro-USB connector will not fit and the drive cannot be used without an extra adapter.

Questions about this item

Which capacity should I choose among the 32GB, 64GB and 128GB versions?

The 128GB model stores roughly four times the photos or video of the 32GB version and twice that of the 64GB version, so pick the size that matches the amount of media you regularly offload from your phone.

What does the 150MB/s read speed mean when I plug the drive into my laptop?

It indicates the maximum sequential read rate over a USB 3.0 port; real-world transfers of large files will approach that figure, while smaller files or USB 2.0 ports will be slower.

How does the dual USB 3.0 and micro-USB interface limit transfer performance?

The USB 3.0 connector caps at USB 3.0 speeds, while the micro-USB end is limited to USB 2.0 rates, so phone-to-drive copies run at USB 2.0 throughput and drive-to-computer copies can reach USB 3.0 throughput.
