Capacity and interface

This SanDisk Ultra Luxe flash drive provides 128GB of storage and connects through a USB Type A plug using the USB 3.2 Gen 1 specification. It is suited for people who need a compact, metal-cased drive for moving documents, photos and videos between computers that have standard USB-A ports.

Practical limits of USB 3.2 Gen 1

The interface caps real-world throughput at roughly 400MB/s read speed, so large file transfers finish quickly on modern ports but will run slower on older USB 2.0 sockets. The drive offers 128-bit AES encryption via downloadable software for users who want to password-protect sensitive data.

What this replaces and when to upgrade

It replaces slower or plastic-bodied USB 2.0 sticks that lack hardware encryption and a keyring loop. The jump is worth it when you regularly shuffle multi-gigabyte files and want a durable metal chassis that resists everyday knocks.

Questions about this item

Which capacity should I choose for the SanDisk Ultra Luxe SDCZ74-128G?

This model provides 128GB of storage; select it if that capacity fits your file library, or look for a higher-capacity Ultra Luxe variant if you need more space.

What does the 400MB/s read speed mean when I copy files to my computer?

The 400MB/s figure is the maximum sequential read rate under ideal conditions; real-world transfers will be lower and depend on the host USB port, file sizes and system workload.

What does USB 3.2 Gen 1 with a Type A connector cap in practice?

The USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface tops out at 5Gbps signalling, so the 400MB/s read claim is the practical ceiling for this drive on a compatible Type A port.
