Compact AM/FM Radio with Rechargeable Option

The Sangean PR-D7 Black is a portable digital radio that receives both AM and FM bands. It fits in a bag at 8.6 by 4.67 by 1.6 inches and weighs 1.27 lbs. The 3.2 by .9 inch LCD with yellow backlight shows frequency and time. Power comes from an included 12V DC adapter, six AA alkaline cells, or six rechargeable AA cells charged inside the unit.

Travelers and Emergency Listeners

The ultra-compact shape and internal charging suit people who want one device for trips, power cuts or bedside use. Ten presets (five per band) and auto-scan make station access quick. Buyers who need weather-band alerts, Bluetooth streaming or a larger display should look elsewhere.

3.2-Inch LCD with Yellow Backlight

The display measures 3.2 by .9 inches and uses a yellow backlight for readable frequency and clock data in low light. This single spec tells you whether the screen size and contrast meet your viewing needs.

Questions about this item

How long do the rechargeable AA batteries last before they need replacing?

The radio charges six AA NiMH cells internally; typical cycle life is several hundred charges, so replacement depends on how often you fully drain and recharge them.

What stops me from listening continuously on mains power?

Only the sleep-timer limit of 120 minutes will shut the radio off automatically; otherwise the 12 V 500 mA DC adapter can run it indefinitely.

How hot or loud does the unit get when it runs all day on the adapter?

The chassis stays barely warm and the 3-inch speaker produces no fan noise, so heat and sound remain negligible during extended use.
