Thermal overload relay with adjustable 7-10 A trip range for motor protection up to 38 A contactors
The Schneider Electric LRD14 is a differential thermal overload relay designed for industrial motor protection. It pairs with TeSys D contactors rated from 9 to 38 amperes to form a complete motor starter. The unit features an adjustable trip current range of 7 to 10 amperes calibrated to Class 10A. Multi-standard certification includes IEC, UL, CSA, CCC, EAC, ATEX and Marine approvals.
Upgrading to this adjustable 7-10 A relay is worthwhile when motor full-load current falls inside that window and the existing starter uses a TeSys D contactor up to 38 A. The Class 10A trip curve suits standard motor acceleration profiles. It is not for applications requiring a trip setting below 7 A or above 10 A, nor for contactors outside the 9-38 A TeSys D range.
Thermal sensing reacts to sustained overcurrent rather than instantaneous short circuits, so a separate short-circuit protective device remains necessary. The relay mounts directly to the contactor, so panel space must accommodate the combined assembly. Ambient temperature compensation is built in, but extreme environments beyond the certified standards may affect trip accuracy.

The LRD14 mounts directly on 9 A through 38 A TeSys D contactors to form a motor starter.
Turn the adjustment dial to the motor's full-load current between 7 A and 10 A; the common error is leaving it at the factory default instead of matching the motor nameplate.
Replace the relay if it trips repeatedly without an obvious motor overload, if the reset button fails to latch, or if the contactor it is mounted on is replaced.
