Product Identity

The Seagate Constellation ES ST2000NM0021 is a 2TB enterprise-grade hard drive built for 3.5-inch bays. It spins at 7200RPM and connects through a SAS 6Gb/s interface. This new unit suits servers and storage arrays that require consistent throughput and dual-port reliability.

Buyer Fit

IT teams managing RAID enclosures, backup appliances or near-line archives will match this drive to SAS backplanes and controllers. Buyers whose systems lack a SAS host bus adapter or backplane cannot install this drive and should select a model with the interface their hardware provides.

Deciding Specification

The SAS 6Gb/s interface is the single specification that determines compatibility. Only proceed when the target chassis and controller explicitly support this connection standard.

Questions about this item

How much heat and power does the 7200RPM SAS drive produce when running continuously?

The 7200RPM SAS 6Gb/s drive is built for enterprise workloads and draws typical power for a 3.5-inch 2TB nearline drive; expect standard heat output for a 2.0-pound unit in a ventilated bay.

What host controller or backplane is needed to connect the 3.5-inch SAS 6Gb/s interface?

You need a SAS HBA, RAID card or server backplane with a 6Gb/s SAS port and a 3.5-inch drive bay that supplies 12 V and 5 V power.

Will the ST2000NM0021 work in an older 3Gb/s SAS backplane without speed loss?

The drive negotiates down to 3Gb/s on legacy SAS backplanes, so it functions normally but at the slower link rate of the older controller.
