Product identity

The Seagate Momentus 5400.5 ST980310AS is an 80GB 2.5-inch laptop internal hard drive. It spins at 5400 RPM with 8MB cache and connects through a SATA 3.0Gb/s interface. The bare-drive unit suits owners replacing a failed drive in an older notebook or adding secondary storage to a compatible bay.

Compatibility check

Verify that the host system accepts a 2.5-inch SATA drive with a maximum height of 9.5mm, width of 69mm and length of 100mm. Confirm the laptop or enclosure provides a standard SATA data and power connector for the 3.0Gb/s link. Buyers needing a larger capacity or a faster interface will not be served by this model.

Build integration

The drive fits directly into any 2.5-inch drive bay that accommodates the 9.5mm z-height and uses the native SATA connector without adapters. Its 5.6ms average latency and 5400 RPM spindle deliver basic storage performance for everyday tasks. The bare-drive packaging means no mounting screws or cables are included, so the installer must supply those separately.
