250 GB SATA laptop drive

The Seagate Momentus 7200 FDE.2 ST9250411AS is a 2.5 inch internal hard drive with 250 GB capacity. It spins at 7200 RPM and includes a 16 MB cache over a SATA 3.0 Gb/s interface. Hardware AES encryption and G-Force Protection are built in.

Suits encrypted storage upgrades

This drive fits users who need a 7200 RPM laptop drive with native hardware encryption for data security. The bare drive packaging suits installers who do not need retail accessories. Buyers needing more than 250 GB of capacity or a faster interface should consider other options.

Hardware AES encryption engine

The third generation Seagate Secure AES engine encrypts all data on the drive without software overhead. This feature decides whether the drive meets a requirement for self encrypting storage. The drive also delivers 4.17 ms average latency and 350 Gs shock tolerance at 2 ms.

Questions about this item

My laptop only has a SATA 3.0Gb/s port — will this Momentus 7200 FDE.2 drive work at full speed?

Yes, the ST9250411AS is built for SATA 3.0Gb/s and will run at its rated 7200 RPM with 16MB cache on that interface.

I plan to keep an older 2.5" SATA drive as a second disk — will both drives coexist without conflicts?

Each drive handles its own encryption and G-Force Protection independently, so an older SATA drive can stay installed alongside this one.

After fitting the bare drive, how can I confirm the AES encryption engine and G-Force Protection are active?

The drive reports 2.3 bels idle and 2.6 bels seek acoustics; SMART data will show the encryption module and 350 Gs / 1000 Gs shock ratings functioning.
