Thin 7mm Profile for Slim Laptops

This Seagate Momentus Thin ST250LT007 is a 2.5-inch internal hard drive with a 7mm z-height designed for slim laptops, netbooks and ultraportables. It delivers 250GB of storage over a SATA 3.0Gb/s interface and operates at 7200 RPM with a 16MB cache. The bare drive format suits system builders and upgrade installers.

Suits Slim Designs, Not High Capacity Needs

The 7mm form factor fits ultraportables and thin consumer electronics where a standard 9.5mm drive cannot be installed. Seagate SmartAlign technology handles the transition to 4096-byte sectors without extra utilities. Buyers who want more storage or solid-state speed should look at something else.

7200 RPM Rotational Speed

The 7200 RPM spindle speed is the specification that most affects everyday responsiveness for this drive. It determines how quickly the platters reach the requested data sector, with an average latency of 4.17ms. This speed separates the model from lower-RPM alternatives in the same thin profile.

Questions about this item

Will the 7 mm height fit in a bay designed for a 9.5 mm drive?

Yes, the 7 mm z-height is compatible with standard 9.5 mm bays and uses the same SATA interface.

What is the correct way to enable SmartAlign when moving to 4K sectors?

SmartAlign handles the 512-to-4096 byte migration automatically in the background; no utility or manual step is required.

How often should the 16 MB cache be cleared or the drive reformatted for maintenance?

The cache is volatile and self-managing, and the drive needs no scheduled reformatting; monitor SMART data for health instead.
