Enterprise SAS Storage Drive

The Seagate Constellation ST2000NM0023 is a 2TB 3.5-inch hard disk drive built for enterprise storage arrays. It spins at 7200 RPM with a 128 MB cache and connects through a 6Gb/s SAS interface. The unit is supplied new with zero operating hours.

For RAID Arrays and Servers

This drive suits administrators expanding SAS-based RAID enclosures, backup appliances or surveillance recorders that require dual-port SAS connectivity. It will not work in systems that lack a SAS host bus adapter or backplane, so builders using consumer motherboards should look elsewhere.

6Gb/s SAS Interface Decides Compatibility

The single specification that determines fit is the SAS interface, which requires a compatible controller or backplane supporting 6Gb/s signalling. Verify your enclosure or server accepts 3.5-inch SAS drives before purchase.

Questions about this item

Will the 7200 RPM SAS drive work in my older 3 Gb/s SAS backplane?

The drive uses a 6 Gb/s SAS interface and is backward compatible with 3 Gb/s SAS backplanes, though it will run at the slower link speed.

How can I confirm the 128 MB cache and 2 TB capacity are recognised after installation?

Check the drive details in your RAID controller BIOS or operating system disk utility; both should report 2 TB capacity and 128 MB cache for the ST2000NM0023.

Does the OEM package include mounting screws, cables or a tray for the 3.5" bay?

The OEM drive ships without screws, cables or a tray; you will need to supply 3.5" mounting hardware and a SAS data/power cable separately.
