Seagate Video 2 TB SATA Drive

This Seagate Video internal hard drive provides 2 TB of storage on a 3.5 inch SATA 6 Gb/s interface. It spins at 5900 RPM and includes a 64 MB buffer for smooth streaming workloads. The bare drive is sold new without cables or mounting hardware.

Ideal for surveillance and DVR recording

The drive suits installers building or expanding network video recorders and DVR appliances that write multiple continuous streams. Builders needing faster random access for operating systems or primary gaming storage should consider a different class of drive.

Sustained write behaviour

At 5900 RPM the spindle delivers steady sequential throughput for long recording sessions without the thermal spikes of higher speed models. The 64 MB cache absorbs bursty camera traffic while the SATA link maintains consistent data flow over extended periods.

Questions about this item

Does the ST2000VM003 need a separate SATA power cable from the PSU?

Yes, as a bare 3.5-inch SATA drive it requires both a SATA data cable to the motherboard and a 15-pin SATA power connector from the power supply.

Will the 6 Gb/s SATA interface on this drive work with a motherboard that only has 3 Gb/s ports?

The drive is backward compatible and will operate at 3 Gb/s on older SATA controllers without any configuration changes.

How can I confirm the 64 MB cache is recognised after installing the ST2000VM003?

Check the drive details in Device Manager or run a SMART tool such as CrystalDiskInfo; the buffer size will be listed as 64 MB.
