120GB SATA laptop drive

The Seagate ST9120817AS is a 120GB 2.5 inch internal hard drive built for notebook computers. It arrives as a bare drive without cables or mounting hardware. The 5400 RPM spindle speed and 8MB cache suit routine office tasks and light media storage. Condition is new from the supplier.

SATA 3.0Gb/s interface

This drive connects through a SATA 3.0Gb/s port, the single specification that determines whether it fits your laptop. The interface matches most notebooks released around 2016 and earlier that accept 2.5 inch SATA drives. Average latency is 5.6ms at 5400 RPM.

Suits older notebook upgrades

Buyers replacing a failed drive in a compatible SATA laptop or adding modest secondary storage will find the capacity adequate. Users who want faster boot times, higher throughput or larger capacities should look at solid-state alternatives or higher-capacity mechanical drives.

Questions about this item

How does the 5400 RPM speed affect everyday laptop use?

The 5400 RPM spindle delivers an average latency of 5.6ms, which is typical for standard notebook workloads such as web browsing, document editing and media playback.

What does the SATA 3.0Gb/s interface limit in practice?

The SATA 3.0Gb/s link caps the maximum transfer rate at 3.0 Gb/s, so sustained reads and writes will not exceed that bandwidth even if the drive mechanics could go faster.

Will this 2.5" drive fit my laptop's drive bay?

The drive uses the standard 2.5-inch form factor, matching the mounting holes and connector location found in most notebook internal bays.
