An IR reflective sensor using an ITR9909 photosensor to detect objects up to 40 cm away, with adjustable sensitivity via an onboard potentiometer and a Grove connector for plug-and-play use
The Grove IR Distance Interrupter v1.2 uses an ITR9909 reflective photosensor to detect objects blocking the light path. It outputs a digital HIGH signal when reflected light is received and a digital LOW signal when the path is clear or the object is too distant. An on-board LED indicates the detection status for immediate visual feedback. The module connects via a Grove unified socket for plug-and-play integration.
The sensor operates effectively within a 7.5 to 40 cm detectable range, beyond which the output remains LOW regardless of object presence. Sensitivity can be tuned using the on-board potentiometer to suit different surface reflectivity and ambient conditions. Performance varies with surface colour, as lighter surfaces reflect more infrared light than darker ones at the same distance.
A rail-to-rail operational amplifier boosts the phototransistor signal, and its gain is set by a physical potentiometer adjusted with a screwdriver. This single hardware control determines the detection threshold for all target surfaces and distances. Buyers who need software-configurable thresholds or multiple preset detection zones cannot meet that need with this module.

The product supplied is version 1.2, the only version listed in the current stock.
It indicates the maximum range at which a reflective object can trigger a digital HIGH output; actual range varies with surface colour and ambient light.
It uses a Grove unified socket for plug-and-play digital I/O, limiting integration to platforms with compatible 4-pin connectors.
