Seeed Studio Grove Light Color Proximity Sensor TMG39931

Four-in-one environmental sensor

The Grove TMG39931 module combines gesture detection, proximity sensing, ambient light measurement and colour sensing in a single 2.36 mm × 3.95 mm × 1.36 mm package. It communicates over I2C and includes an integrated IR LED with a factory-calibrated driver. Makers and engineers adding context awareness to compact devices can use this sensor.

I2C integration and optical functions

The sensor connects directly to a Grove I2C port, requiring only the bus and supply voltage from the host board. Four directional photodiodes enable gesture recognition while the same IR LED serves proximity detection. A 32-bit dataset storage FIFO buffers gesture data, freeing the host processor from continuous polling. Barcode pattern generation uses internal RAM for IRBeam transmission.

High dynamic range under sustained use

Proximity detection operates with a 98000:1 dynamic range and ambient light rejection to maintain distance accuracy during extended operation. Colour and ALS channels deliver up to 16.7M:1 dynamic range with UV and IR blocking filters for stable light perception. The integrated FIFO and hardware IRBeam engine sustain pattern transmission without host intervention.
