Fall Detection Sensor

The Seeed Studio MR60FDA1 is a 60GHz mmWave radar module built for fall detection and presence awareness. It suits developers and integrators adding non-visual safety monitoring to smart-home or healthcare systems.

Detection Accuracy

The module achieves 90% fall detection accuracy and 90% presence awareness accuracy using FMCW radar with a 1T3R antenna array. It scans body tomography to identify falls through height difference and speed change.

Operating Characteristics

The sensor covers a three-dimensional sector of 60° horizontally and 60° tilted at distances from .4 to 3 metres. It maintains high immunity against temperature, humidity, noise, airflow, dust and light without a cooling fan.

Questions about this item

What does the 90% fall-detection accuracy mean when the sensor is mounted on a ceiling?

The module scans a 60° horizontal by 60° tilted sector from 0.4 to 3 m and reports a fall when height difference and speed change match the algorithm, achieving 90% accuracy for a single person in that zone.

How does the UART interface limit the way I can read detection data?

UART provides a common protocol for status and raw data output; four user-defined I/O groups and several GPIOs are also available for custom signalling or host-computer integration.

What clearance and mounting orientation does the sensor need to cover its 60° detection sector?

Designed for top installation, the module requires a ceiling or high-wall mount so its 60° horizontal by 60° tilted sector spans 0.4–3 m below it without obstructions.
