Reference-class open-back headphone

The Sennheiser HD 650 is an open-back dynamic headphone built for critical listening and high-resolution audio playback. Hand-selected driver pairs with tight tolerances deliver a balanced, transparent signature that suits audiophiles and studio monitoring alike.

Acoustic silk damping and low distortion

Specially designed acoustic silk provides precision damping across the 10 to 39,500 Hertz range and helps reduce total harmonic distortion to 0.05 percent. Neodymium ferrous magnets and lightweight aluminium voice coils ensure high efficiency and fast transient response without excess heat or mechanical noise.

Detachable OFC cable and Irish build quality

A detachable, Kevlar-reinforced OFC copper cable measuring 118 inches minimises handling noise and terminates in a 3.5 millimetre jack plug. The titanium-silver finish and manufacture in Ireland reflect a durable construction intended for long sessions at a stationary hi-fi system.

Questions about this item

How is the detachable OFC copper cable attached to the Sennheiser HD 650 and what step is often missed?

The cable plugs into each ear cup via a two-pin connector; the step users miss is aligning the pins fully and pressing until they click, otherwise one channel drops out.

Which part of the Sennheiser HD 650 will need replacement first with daily use?

The Kevlar-reinforced detachable cable and the ear pads are the only wear items; the cable typically lasts years, while pads should be swapped when the foam compresses or the covering cracks.

At what sound-pressure level does the Sennheiser HD 650's 0.05 percent THD figure cease to hold during extended listening?

The 0.05 percent total harmonic distortion is measured at 1 kHz and 100 dB SPL; sustained playback above that level will push distortion higher before any thermal limit appears.
