Eight-line desk phone with colour display

The ShoreTel IP 485G is an eight-line VoIP handset built around a 480x272 pixel backlit colour screen. A five-pack supplies identical units for consistent rollout across a team or floor. Full-duplex speakerphone and visual voicemail are integrated for hands-free calls and message review. Feature keys cover transfer, conference, hold, history, voicemail and directory access.

Passive cooling with Gigabit uplink

No moving parts mean silent operation in normal office use. The built-in 10/100/1000 Ethernet switch passes Gigabit speeds to a downstream PC without a separate drop. Power is drawn over the network cable, so no external adapter is required. Heat output stays low enough for continuous desk-side placement.

Replaces analogue or single-line sets

The jump is worthwhile when users need simultaneous line appearances, visual voicemail and a shared corporate directory. It does not suit buyers who want more storage, wireless handsets or SIP accounts beyond the eight lines provided. The five-pack also does not fit sites needing only one or two replacements.

Questions about this item

How do I install the ShoreTel IP 485G phones and what step is often missed?

Connect each phone to the network using the built-in 10/100/1000 Ethernet switch for power and data; the step often missed is configuring the VLAN or LLDP settings on the switch so the phone receives the correct voice VLAN ID.

What maintenance or replacement will the IP 485G need later?

The handset cord and coiled handset cable are the parts most likely to wear; replacements use standard RJ-9 connectors available from telecom suppliers.

What limit appears first on the IP 485G under sustained heavy use?

The 10/100/1000 Ethernet uplink can become the bottleneck when multiple high-bandwidth calls and data traffic share the single gigabit connection.
