Industrial Mid-Range Barcode Scanner

The Sick CLV631-0000 is a line scanner built for industrial identification tasks. It reads codes at resolutions between 0.25 mm and 0.5 mm across a front reading field. The scanner suits logistics, manufacturing and automation engineers who need reliable mid-range capture. Its die-cast aluminium housing withstands harsh environments.

Upgrade from Short-Range or Lower-Frequency Units

This model replaces scanners limited to closer distances or slower scan rates. The jump is worth it when codes must be read from 90 mm to 450 mm away at 0.5 mm resolution. A scanning frequency range of 400 Hz to 1,200 Hz handles faster conveyor speeds. Laser class 2 compliance meets EN 60825-1 safety requirements.

Integration into Control Systems

The unit connects via a 0.9 m cable terminated in a 15-pin D-Sub HD male connector. It operates on 18 V DC to 30 V DC supply with a 5 W power draw. Optional heating extends operation in cold conditions. A field of view up to 50 degrees covers wider passages without repositioning.

Questions about this item

What mounting space does the die-cast aluminium housing need?

The scanner uses a front reading field with a line scanner design, so allow clearance for the 0.9 m cable and the 15-pin D-Sub HD connector at the rear.

How is the 15-pin D-Sub HD connector wired for 18 V DC to 30 V DC supply?

Connect the 0.9 m cable to a stable DC source within the voltage range; the common error is reversing polarity on the 15-pin plug, which prevents the 400 Hz to 1,200 Hz scan motor from starting.

When should the front laser window be cleaned to keep 0.25 mm to 0.5 mm resolution?

Wipe the window whenever dust or residue reduces contrast at the 90 mm to 450 mm reading distance; the Class 2 laser requires no scheduled replacement.
